The Sh*t of Life

Posted on Mar 12th, 2006 by Nancy : Life Expansionist Nancy
I volunteered at USM this weekend - supporting students who are currently in their second year of the Spiritual Psychology Masters Program.

During one of the sharings where students stand up and talk about the progress/challenges/etc. they're currently facing, a student brought forward the impact his "Relationship Project" has been having on his life.

As a backdrop, the essence of this project requires student to select the most challenging relationship they have in their lives and create positive, healing movement & change.

I won't go into the full detail, but wanted to share with you one of the (brilliant!) revelations re: family "baggage" that this student shared.  He said:

"I came to the realization that the sh*t of our family (this lifetime, karmic, etc.)
is the fertilizer for the seeds that we came into this life with."

I LOVE that quote.  And it's oh so true.  Not only can it be applied to our families, but also to everything that has led up to this very moment.  The shi*t of our lives is the fertilizer for making our dreams a reality.

Pretty cool.

It inspired me, so I thought I would share.

Hope everyone is having a great Sunday!

Lots of love,
Nancy

AIN’T IT THE TRUTH, THOUGH!!  I have to agree… I wouldn’t be the person I am today were it not for the sh*t I’ve been through in my life… as much as I would love to say, “I wish I had a better/easier/less challenging life.”  I know that my strength, fortitude and determination are all fruition of a life of challenges… and I am enjoying the fruits of my labor!

Great post, Nancy!!!

Fred Kofman teaches his students to say “Oh fertilizer!” instead of “Oh sh*t!” when things get sh*tty.  Great post!

Hehe, yep!  Even “sh*t” is sweet to a dung beetle.

It’s great when the mentor takes something away from the students, huh?

Wonderful! It reminds me of how Swami Beyondananda teaches us when upset with relatives or difficult people or situations to just surrender and say, “Ah, peace on it!” ;-)

LOL. There’s some pretty funny sh*t being said here.

Living with a farm of animals you can probably guess there is a lot of sh*t. But, interestingly enough, I feel closest to God when I am out scooping horse poop. It’s where some of my most Divine thoughts come from. It’s a moving meditation in nature for me. So “Amen” to it being good fertilizer in many ways.

As far as family of origin stuff goes, I once heard someone say:   “our family didn't create our karma, our karma created our family”.  Which of course applies to everything in our life.  We each have created the most perfect field in which to grow and transform and experience precisely what we came here to experience.
I found a good quote about this, (and I don't know who said it, unfortunately), but I posted it on my blog. It's pretty short, if anyone wants to read it. It's called “roadblocks” and it speaks to the hard stuff, and the great purpose it serves in each of our journeys.

Thanks for the post, Nancy. And for all the inspiring work you do!

Oh my … I LOVE the play on words – “Peace on it!”, “Oh fertilizer!”  Beautiful.  =)

Isn't it great when we can look at the challenges in our lives with a sense of humor?  Taking that sense of humor with us as we use the challenges for our upliftment and growth is such a great gift.

You all absolutely inspire me with your words of wisdom.  And, yes Rob, it's incredible to learn from your students.  Happily, I'm experiencing more and more of that every day.

Thank you all for your posts.  I'm glad to be back in the flow of Zaadz-land.  I missed you all!!!
